YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

Position: Child Care Lead Teacher 

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direction for the children in the classroom and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
  2. Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
  3. Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards.
  4. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  5. Cultivates positive relationships, conducts parent conferences, and maintains effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
  6. Maintains program site and equipment.
  7. Maintains required program records.
  8. Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  9. Follows all Altru Family YMCA policies and procedures.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

  5. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  6. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships

Position: School Age Teacher 

Full and Part Time Positions 

Position Summary:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Implements a high quality YMCA child care program and provides direct supervision of a group of children in a school age child care setting. Assist the School Age Site Leader/School Age Coordinator in providing a warm and nurturing environment, in which children can grow physically, intellectually, and have fun in a safe, supervised environment.

 

Essential Functions: 

  1. Assists with the school age child care programs for assigned location(s). Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities.
  2. Assists with staff training, as needed.
  3. Assures compliance with federal, state and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Ensures that YMCA program standards and child care licensing regulations are met and safety procedures followed.
  4. Assumes the responsibility for the health and safety of all enrolled children, including the whereabouts of all children at all times.
  5. Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.
  6. Develops and maintains relationships with school administration, and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Communicates respectfully and effectively with children, parents, staff, and supervisor.
  7. Maintains site order and implements guidance techniques in compliance with program policies and procedures. Provides positive, relevant information on student’s behavior, progress and activities. Shares any concerns with School Age Site Leader immediately.

  12. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.

Position: Summer Adventure Camp Counselor 

Hours: 7:15am-5:30pm (max of 40 hrs. a week)

Reports to: Youth Development Director

 

The ideal candidate possesses:

Duties/Responsibilities:
· Provide a safe, welcoming, and fun experience for children and their families.
· Enforce and be an example to all Adventure Camp rules
· Attend all staff meetings and trainings
· Assist in the planning and implementing of the daily activities that fit the children’s needs and interests.
· Report all suspicions of child abuse to proper authorities.
· Make sure proper procedures are followed for sign-in/out of children on a daily basis.
· Reports all accidents to the Supervisor, and completely fill out proper accident/incident form
· Direct or assist in the daily maintenance of camp equipment, ensuring safety and cleanliness.
· Assume equal share of the regular maintenance such as cleaning, preparing for daily activities and
cleaning up after projects.
· Establish a relationship with each child and know his or her present level of understanding; consider the needs of all the children and treat each child with respect and dignity.
· Communicate effectively with parents
· Remains up to date on emergency procedures and family center policies.
· All other duties assigned by Youth Development Director.

 

Qualifications:

Must be 18 years of age and have High School Diploma 1-2 years prior experience working with children. Camp experience preferred. CPR/First Aid required, Lifeguard certification preferred

 

 

HEALTHY LIVING

Position: Lifeguard

Days/Times:

Various Days and Hours

Duties:

To provide a safe and friendly environment for members and guests during lap swim, family swim, open swim and other special aquatic events. Other responsibilities will include basic pool area and record upkeep, with any other assigned duties by the Aquatic Director as needed.

Requirements:

Must have a current CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification or willingness to complete.

Must have a current First Aide Certification or willingness to complete.

Must have a YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or willingness to complete.

Position: Swim Instructor

Days/Times:

Various Days and Hours

Duties:

To provide a safe and friendly environment for participants during swimming lessons. Ability to teach all six levels of YMCA V6 Swim Lessons. You must have a strong desire to work with young children in a very challenging environment, be outgoing and an energetic person. Other responsibilities will include daily safety checks, evaluations of students, maintenance of swimming equipment, with any other assigned duties by the Aquatic Director.

Requirements:

Must have a current CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification or willingness to complete.

Must have a current First Aid Certification or willingness to complete.

Must have an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification or YMCA Principles of Swimming or willingness to complete.

MEMBER SERVICES

Position: Member Services Representative

Days/Times:

Part time. Various Days and Hours

 

Position Summary: 

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  Delivers excellent service to all members, guests, and program participants.  Responds to member and guest needs, promotes memberships and programs, and maintains cleanliness and organization of the lobby area.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Provides excellent service to members, guests, and program participants in the Y and on the phone, contributing to member retention.
  2. Conduct interviews and/or tours responsive to the needs of prospective members; sells memberships and YMCA Programming
  3. Builds relationships with members; helps members connect with one another and the YMCA.
  4. Handles and resolves membership concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
  5. Applies all YMCA policies dealing with member services.
  6. Controls member/guest access to facility.
  7. May hand out locker keys and towels; may monitor the locker rooms as required.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid.
  2. Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  3. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic
    segments of the community
