Safety Certifications 

Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Health Care Provider

Purpose of this course is to teach those with a duty to act (professional rescuers) the skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies. This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim of cardiac arrest. People who wish to take the full CPR/AED course should purchase the “BLS for Healthcare Providers Student Manual.” The manual can be purchased at http://aha.channing-bete.com/ and the cost for the manual is $12. Within 7 days of the class, all payment is non-refundable.

Certificate Issued and Validity Period

Participants who successfully complete the course have the choice of one of the following certificates:

  1. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and the Healthcare Provider: 2 years
  2. CPR/AED for the Healthcare Provider: 2 years
  3. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer: 2 years

Pediatric CPR/First Aid/AED Combination Class (Heartsaver)

This course trains participants how to respond to and manage illnesses and injuries in a child or infant in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. Those who take this course include: anyone involved in childcare who have a duty to respond to illnesses and injuries in a child or infant in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. Including: childcare workers, teachers, camp counselors, etc.. Topics covered include: First Aid basics, CPR/AED and choking; CPR and AED use for adults; Children and Infants, Adult, Child, and Infant Choking. Within 7 days of the class, all payment is non-refundable.

Please visit http://elearning.heart.org/ and find, pay for, and complete one of the courses offered (BLS/CPR; Heartsaver CPR/First Aid/AED; Heartsaver Pediatric CPR/First Aid/AED). Call the YMCA at 701-775-2586 and ask to speak to a trainer to set up a skill test to complete certification. There are 3 costs involved: fee for online class, fee to YMCA ($25), and fee for the card

Aquatic Certifications

Lifeguard Training

A cognitive and psycho-motor overview of the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies in confined, and non-surf open, water environments. Includes certification training in CPR and First Aid. Minimum age of 15 years. Certifications last for 2 years before recertification is required. Within 7 days of the class, all payment is non-refundable.

Water Safety Instructor (WSI)

Application of theories of learning, teaching and conducting an American Red Cross Infant to Preschool Aquatic Programs, Progressive Learn to Swim class and Community Water Safety. Certification is good for 2 years before recertification is required.

Must be 16 years of age

Bring towel, bathing suit, and lock for locker each day. Refunds will not be given for absence or cancellation without at least 1 weeks notice.
