Capital Campaign Gifts

“The YMCA has been an integral place in the lifelong fitness of our family. We feel that physical fitness is what contributes to balance in our lives and promotes physical and emotional health and well-being. Our Y has been here for our community and now its time for us to rally….” – Jim and Mary Dale Hansen, Grand Forks, ND

Give, Build, Grow

“Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world”. – Maya Angelo

In 2011, a group of citizens in our community came together to raise funds, which enabled the YMCA to make some necessary updates and enhancements to an aging facility, which was built in 1969. Because of their efforts, we were able to increase program space, renovate our infant, toddler and school-age program areas, create 2 community rooms, establish new racquetball courts, group exercise, mind/body and multi-purpose studios, update our pool mechanical systems, as well as, create an accessible cardio, nautilus and free weight area.  The Y also transformed its member services area and created a welcoming community space for individuals to gather and connect with others.  In September 2012, the community celebrated this transformation with us during our re-grand opening of the Altru Family YMCA.  Recently, donors came together to help us achieve another goal in our master building plan.  In Spring, 2017, the Y will be creating an accessible outdoor playground for youth and families in our community to enjoy, as well as, the children participating in our child care center.

As we continue to move forward, the YMCA has areas of the facility that still need to be addressed,  as well as, program areas that need to be enhanced to meet current community needs.  Therefore, our staff and volunteer leadership are continuing our efforts to raise capital gifts to help us provide the quality of programs and services that our community deserves and expects from our Y.

With your help, we can raise the additional funds necessary to complete the renovations to the remaining areas of the Y, including the replacement of the wood floor in our gymnasium, classroom renovations in our pre-school child care program area, or updated locker room space.  Naming opportunities are available for businesses, families and individuals to be recognized for their gift. Each and every gift is important and appreciated. Recognition will be given as a special thank you to those who support any of our capital projects through a donor wall located in in the main lobby of the YMCA.

Proposed YMCA Renovation Plans

The YMCA is proud to be working with JLG Architects and Construction Engineers on making the necessary changes and renovations to the Y to match the needs of youth and families for today and tomorrow. The proposed plans were developed with input from members, program participants, volunteers and staff leadership.
